 C/R:Angry Biriwa Chief Fishermen Call for Landing Site Following Destructive Sea Storm The chief fishermen of Biriwa have urgently demanded the construction of a landing site (harbour) to protect their canoes from destruction during storms. Biriwa, a fishing community in the Central Region under the Mfantseman Municipality, is well known for its fishing activities and densely populated community. A press conference was held on Wednesday, 4th February 2026, to address the continuous threat posed by the absence of a landing site.  On Tuesday, 3rd February 2026, several canoes were carried away by rough seas during a storm. According to Nana Kofi Afomoa (V), Chief Fisherman of Biriwa, the fishermen in the town are suffering due to the lack of a landing beach.   NAIMOS Destroys Large-Scale Galamsey Operations on River Pra Eastern Region, February 3, 2026 The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has uncovered and destroyed a complex network of illegal mining activities along the Pra River in the Eastern Region. On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at about 9:30 a.m., personnel of NAIMOS, in collaboration with the Akyem-Oda Blue Water Guards, carried out an intelligence-led operation to clamp down on galamsey activities on and along the Pra River. The operation took place between Ofoase Awona and Nsese communities in the Akyemansa District. The operation, which was conducted under tight security, aimed to disrupt ongoing illegal mining activities and destroy equipment used by the miners. These activities have heavily polluted the Pra River and contributed to the shutdown of some water treatment plants. Olson, has led a four-member U.S. delegation to a bilateral meeting with the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, to discuss human trafficking, forced labour, child labour, and employment-related fraud. Briefing the Minister on the purpose of the visit, Mr. Matthew Hickey, Deputy Director at the U.S. Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, stated that human trafficking and labour-related crimes remain major global challenges and continue to receive high-level attention from the U.S. Government.   POLICE ARREST TWO MORE SUSPECTS LINKED TO ADABRAKA JEWELLERY SHOP ROBBERY:  ARMS AND AMMUNITION RECOVERED The Ghana Police Service, through the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector- General of Police, has arrested two additional suspects in connection with the robbery of a jewellery shop at Adabraka. The suspects, identified as Hamza Agerego, also known as Nene Bawku or Lambert, and Alhassan Elliasu, also known as Arab Man, were arrested on 7th January 2026 from their hideouts at Ashaiman. Suspect Hamza Agerego was first arrested and detained at the Katamanso District Police Headquarters in connection with the robbery. Acting on intelligence, an operation was conducted at Ashaiman, leading to the arrest of suspect Alhassan Elliasu at his hideout.
