 Labour Minister Visits Amasaman Public Employment Centre, Assures Strengthening of Employment Support Services

The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has paid a working visit to the Amasaman Public Employment Centre (PEC) as part of efforts to enhance labour administration and deepen employment facilitation services nationwide.

The visit formed part of the Ministry’s routine monitoring exercise aimed at assessing service delivery, identifying operational challenges, and exploring opportunities to improve job-matching services and labour market data systems under the Ghana Labour Market Information System (GLMIS) supported by the World Bank.


Addressing staff, Dr. Pelpuo highlighted the central role of labour administration in driving national productivity, describing labour issues as “the engine that powers every thriving economy.” He stressed that functional labour offices are vital for ensuring equal access to employment opportunities, especially for young people seeking guidance and support.


Drawing from his own experience as a young job seeker, the Minister recalled how a labour office helped him secure his first job—an opportunity he believes every Ghanaian youth must have today. “Labour offices must remain places where anyone, regardless of background, can walk in and find support, direction and opportunity,” he emphasised.

The Minister commended staff for their dedication and assured them of the Ministry’s commitment to addressing concerns related to staffing, internet connectivity and logistics. He further pledged to strengthen the GLMIS platform to ensure job seekers can easily access nationwide job vacancies from their communities or even from home. He noted that plans are underway to link the system to multiple institutions to enhance labour market data and improve reporting on job creation across sectors.


The Chief Labour Officer, Mr. Dawuda Braimah, praised the staff for maintaining an orderly and well-kept facility despite operational constraints. He reaffirmed the importance of PECs in offering career counselling, job-matching and labour market guidance to the youth. He added that while employers frequently declare vacancies at the centre, enhanced digital feedback mechanisms are needed to track outcomes after job placements.


Staff also demonstrated how the GLMIS platform is used to register job seekers, upload vacancies and match applicants to available opportunities. They confirmed that several job seekers have already been shortlisted and referred to employers, with some receiving placement confirmations, though feedback processes are still being improved.


The Minister was accompanied by the Chief Director, Mr. Hamidu Adakurugu; Director of Labour and Employment, Mr. Nhyira Sarfo; Chief Labour Officer, Mr. Dawuda Braimah;  Project Coordinator, Mr. Augustine Ampomah; Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Eyram Tottimeh and Assistant Public Affairs, Mr. Kafui Nutsu among others.
