The meeting, attended by key stakeholders including the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akontombra, Hon. Joseph Appiah, small-scale miners, traditional authorities, and community members, provided a platform for discussing the Cooperative Mining Scheme and its benefits.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Appiah highlighted the economic significance of mining to local communities, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices to mitigate environmental destruction. George Dadzie Jnr., Deputy National Coordinator, rCOMSDEP, presented the objectives and procedures of the Cooperative Mining Scheme, noting that cooperative groups will receive training in best mining practices at the University of Mines and Technology (UMAT) prior to acquiring a licence.
